Fremantle Expect Guns Back For Derby

Fremantle are expecting gun duo Matt Pavlich and Aaron Sandilands to return in Round 17 for the Western derby.

Pavlich (calf) and Sandilands (hamstring) have missed games recently, frustrating many DT coaches, while Byron Schammer has been ruled out this week too, with a calf problem.

But the Dockers are expecting all to be ready to return against their rivals from across town next weekend.

"We should definitely have them back next week against West Coast," football administration manager Brent Dawkins said.

"With a young and inexperienced side it's important to have some leaders out there, so we're looking forward to having them back for the derby.

"If they were passed medically fit they would definitely have played."

Goodwin: Edwards' Injury Not Too Bad

Adelaide captain Simon Goodwin has claimed the hamstring injury to gun $381k midfielder Tyson Edwards is only a slight strain.

Edwards, who is owned by over 6,000 DT coaches, sustained the hamstring injury at Crows' training on Thursday and has been ruled out of the weekend's clash with St Kilda.

Speaking on Nine News' Thursday Night Live program in Adelaide, Goodwin said, "It's not too bad.

"Hopefully it's just a slight hamstring at this stage and knowing Tyson he'll get back as quick as he can."

Around The Grounds

  • Western Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade has brushed aside concerns about $384k gun midfielder Adam Cooney's knee. Eade said, "He just got a bit of a knock, had a little bit of swelling in the same knee (which was operated on last year). He took that in to the Collingwood game, which made his recovery a little bit hampered this week on the Monday and Tuesday. But he has pulled up well. He's fine, and we're pretty confident he will be right from now on."
  • Richmond caretaker coach Jade Rawlings has spoken about the delicate situation of $353k forward Nathan Brown. Brown has battled injuries this year and has spent time playing with Coburg in the VFL recently. Rawlings said, "He needs to be able to prove he can pull up and recover and then play again. We’ll judge it on his form and how he keeps recovering from his groin injury but you’d expect to see him back fairly soon I would have thought."
  • Collingwood's $341k ruckman Josh Fraser was close to getting the nod for this weekend clash with Hawthorn but missed out with a knee complaint. Pies coach Mick Malthouse said, "He was very close to playing … he’s close but not close enough." It is expected Fraser will be available for Round 17.
  • Carlton's $332k midfielder Nick Stevens remains out of the Blues' 22 but assistant coach Matty Lappin says he isn't far away. Lappin said, “He was going well and that reserves game he played in, he got injured early in the game so we just think he needs another game back there."
