Around The Grounds

  • Fremantle say they expect popular DT ruckman Aaron Sandilands to be available next round despite missing the club's trip to Adelaide this week with a minor hamstring strain. The omission of the $415k ruckman is a blow for the 48,000 DT coaches who own him.
  • According to Richmond's official website, popular $338k midfielder Nathan Foley will miss two to three weeks with a calf injury. The Tigers have also ruled out $293 midfielder Andy Collins for the same period of time with a hip problem.
  • Essendon haven't revealed much on the kneecap inury to $300k mid/fwd Hayden Skipworth which has ruled him out this round's clash with Sydney. According to the Bombers website, Skipworth has a patella problem, which is the medical term for a kneecap injury. That's rather ambiguous.

Cats Reveal Injury Troubles

Geelong have revealed information about their injuries in a press release today after four high-profile players dropped out of their side this week.

The statement went as follows, "Matthew Scarlett: Scarlett has back tightness and is expected to be back to face Melbourne in round 16.

"Cameron Ling: Ling has knee tendonitis and didn't come up during the week. His condition will continue to be monitored.

"Darren Milburn: Milburn rolled his ankle against St Kilda and although he returned to the field he will not be risked this week.

"James Kelly: Kelly felt hamstring tightness at training on Wednesday and is expected to be fit to face Melbourne in round 16."

No information was disclosed on Steve Johnson's hip problem.

DT Round 15 Teams

Well the teams are in and the news is mixed with some big inclusions such as Dean Cox, Chad Cornes, Josh Drummond and Simon Goodwin, but some popular DT players miss out including Stevie Johnson, Hayden Skipworth, Nathan Foley and Aaron Sandilands.

Richmond
Ins: Matthew White, Alex Rance, Jake King
Outs:
Nathan Foley (calf), Andrew Collins (hip), Jarrod Silvester
(omitted)
Richmond's outs are bad news for those DT coaches who jumped on $75k defender Silvester just as he was primed to burst his bubble. Foley out is bad news too, but the return of Rance is handy for many. Still no Joel Bowden, Mark Coughlan, Andrew Raines or Mark Coughlan.

Geelong

Ins:
David Wojcinski, Tom Gillies, Ryan Gamble, Tom Lonergan
Outs:
Cameron Ling (knee), Matthew Scarlett (back), James Kelly (hamstring), Darren Milburn (ankle)

Plenty of changes from the Cattery, but the big news is $405k fwd Stevie Johnson not being included. Scarlett is a popular DTer so his injury is a blow, while Harry Taylor gets the nod despite concussion last week.

Tom Lonergan, Tom Harley, David Wojcinski

Fremantle
Ins: Ryan Murphy, Tim Ruffles, Dean Solomon
Outs: Des Headland (hamstring), Aaron Sandilands (hamstring), Daniel Gilmore (omitted)
Popular $415k ruck Sandilands drops out which is huge news, but if you're after cheap cover look no further than $86k Dockers ruckman Zac Clarke who'll burst his bubble this week. Still no Matt Pavlich.

HB: Matt de Boer, Luke McPharlin, Paul Duffield
C: Garrick Ibbotson, Paul Hasleby, Clayton Hinkley

North Melbourne
Ins: Sam Power, Lindsay Thomas, Leigh Adams, Josh Smith, Levi Greenwood
Outs: Daniel Pratt (suspended), Cruize Garlett (omitted)

I warned you about jumping on the Cruize Garlett-train last week and indeed he's out this week. $116k defender Greenwood's inclusion in the 25 is promising and keep an eye out for $86k mid Leigh Adams if he gets a game as he's been knocking down the door with good form in the VFL.

B: Scott McMahon, Nathan Grima, Scott Thompson
HB: Michael Firrito, Lachie Hansen, Josh Gibson
C: Gavin Urquhart, Adam Simpson, Liam Anthony
HF: Leigh Harding, Drew Petrie, Brent Harvey
F: Corey Jones, David Hale, Lindsay Thomas

Melbourne v Port Adelaide, Sunday, MCG

Melbourne
Ins: Lynden Dunn, Daniel Bell, Clint Bartram, Brad Miller
Outs: Colin Sylvia (suspended)

Looks like Melbourne have just eased underwhelming $145k rookie forward Jack Watts out of the picture. Another game for $152k young gun Liam Jurrah.

B: Cale Morton, Matthew Warnock, James Frawley
HB: Paul Wheatley, Jared Rivers, James McDonald
C: Neville Jetta, Brock McLean, Liam Jurrah
HF: Cameron Bruce, Matthew Bate, Ricky Petterd

Port Adelaide

In: Matt Broadbent, Chad Cornes, Michael Pettigrew, Matthew Westhoff
Out:
Troy Chaplin (suspended)
The return of $347k def/mid Chadley Chornes is the big news. That is, if he plays which I'm not confident he will. Look out for $86k mid Broadbent if he plays, as his SANFL form's been good.

B: Alipate Carlile, Toby Thurstans, Jacob Surjan
HB: Nathan Krakouer, Chad Cornes, Peter Burgoyne
C: Danny Meyer, Domenic Cassisi, Tom Logan
HF: Robert Gray, Warren Tredrea, David Rodan

West Coast v St Kilda

West Coast

Ins: Eric Mackenzie, Mark Nicoski, Dean Cox, Daniel Kerr, Patrick McGinnity
Outs: Brett Jones (hamstring), Scott Selwood (general soreness)
Never has Cox being put back in, been received with such fanfare but this week everyone's happy to see the big fella back. For some reason I'm one of the foolish DT coaches who owns $240k mid Kerr and to be honest, his return isn't good news as it'll only mean his value drops more.

B: David Wirrpanda, Darren Glass, Matt Spangher
HB: Shannon Hurn, Eric Mackenzie, Mark Nicoski
C: Matt Rosa, Matt Priddis, Adam Selwood
HF: Andrew Embley, Josh Kennedy, Sam Butler

S
t Kilda
Ins: Sean Dempster, Robert Eddy, James Gwilt, Luke Miles
Outs:
Jarryn Geary (omitted)

Still no return for $178k defender Maxy Hudghton. I fancy $235k defender Dempster getting the nod here.

Dockers Confirm Rookie Ruffles In

Fremantle have confirmed they will give $86k rookie forward Tim Ruffles his AFL debut this weekend against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.

While fellow rookie forwards Hayden Ballentyne and Liam Jurrah are attracting plenty of DT interest, Ruffles' progress should be monitored.

"He’s been playing really well at WAFL level for a month now, so it gives us the opportunity at selection to put his name forward and play him," Dockers coach Mark Harvey said.

Harvey also confirmed he wouldn't be resting popular young duo Nick Suban ($179k def) or Stephen Hill ($230k def).

The Dockers boss also admitted $361k gun forward Matthew Pavlich wouldn't be returning this week from a calf injury despite some speculation to the contrary.
