Stevie Johnson Back Next Week

Geelong coach Mark Thompson has reassured DT coaches by saying $405k forward Steve Johnson's omission today was just a precautionary measure.

Johnson, owned by over 73,000 DT coaches, was a late withdrawal from Geelong's clash with St Kilda today with a hip problem.

But Thompson erased any fears DT coaches may have had of an extended spell on the sidelines for Johnson and it seems the forward should be fit for the trip north to Brisbane next week.

"He's been sore for a couple of weeks and he just got to the point where what's the point in pushing him?" Thompson said.

"It's round 14, and I know it was a big game and we would have loved to have him out there, but you'd hate to think if he'd played today, he'd miss three or four weeks with an injury that took a long time to heal."

Cornes Back Next Week?

Port Adelaide $347k defender Chad Cornes has revealed he expects to return to AFL footy next round after being out since Round 10 with a knee problem.

Cornes, who is owned almost 40,000 DT coaches, told SA Nine News, "All things going to plan I'll also play next week so I can't wait."

The Power defender also revealed more information about a finger injury which was hampering brother Kane Cornes ($396k midfielder) at training this week.

"I'm not sure it's broken, I think he just got a bit of a knock on it last week and he won't let a little finger bother him, that's for sure."

Kane is expected to be fit to face the Brisbane Lions this evening at AAMI Stadium.

Tigers To Continue With Youth

There doesn't seem to be an AFL recall in sight for Richmond's veterans after Tigers caretaker coach Jade Rawlings claimed he'll continue with youth.

The likes of Joel Bowden, Mark Coughlan and Troy Simmonds, all relatively popular DT players, are currently out of favour at Punt Road.

And Rawlings told the media after Richmond's loss to Adelaide on Saturday night, "Our young guys were terrific so why would we change it?

"We nearly won a game against a very good football side with a couple of blokes down, so we will stick to our criteria with our selection about who's in form, who's prepared to do what we want, follow instructions and we'll keep going down that path."
